As I sat down to begin this blog post; I got nothing. Absolutely blank stare at the screen nothing. Hard to imagine that I get to discuss one of my favorite spiritual practices...and nothing. I just stared at my computer trying desperately to come up with words for this blog...preferably words that formed a proper sentence and oh, bonus if it pertained to the topic at hand...all I could do was think about what was going on with me, personally. Be it what happened yesterday or concerns and plans about tomorrow....and don't get me started about worries and anxieties far down the road, years into the future! I know I am not alone in this mindset, but needless to say, I was not very mindful or present to where I was and what I was doing and that never ends well, am I right? I was ruminating on energy of the past and wondering why I was so exhausted and couldn't focus on this blog. I knew my intention was clear and my thoughts and ideas were there but they were scattered...like a swirling tornado of scrabble letters in my brain trying to make their way to the playing board, or in this case to my keyboard. Energy can be your ally and energy can be well, your speed bump. In this case...mine was the later. My husband, bless his heart, walks in the room, sees the blank stare on my face and I say to him "I'm trying to write a blog post but I think I used up all my creativity and energy for the day already." (Note to self...it is only 12 noon on Monday.) Yes, perhaps it could simply be a "case of the Monday's" but perhaps something can and should be done about this...I'd hate to have the inspiration for a fun and educational blog post...but not the energy to write about it! What my husband said next could not be more timely; "Is there an oil you'd like me to diffuse for you? Mandarin Rain, Spiritual Grounding...Love Potion No. 218?" I think sometimes we get subtle nudges from the universe and then other times we get hit with a ton of (metaphorical) bricks! The answer was in front of me..."YES...OF COURSE...what a wonderful idea! Why don't I diffuse some oils useful for smudging to clear this stagnant energy and get back to my blog post!" If you're wondering what oils I chose that did the trick...I'll tell you in a minute! The act of smudging has been around for centuries. Webster's dictionary defines smudging as "to smoke or protect by means of a smudge" - not super helpful Webster, but we'll give you a participation ribbon just the same. To me, smudging is a sacred and spiritual practice where plant material, herbs, incense, and even oils are burned or diffused to create smoke or vapors with intention to purify or cleanse negative thoughts or energy of a person or place. In my experience smudging has also been used to clear patterns or stagnant energy and create new thought forms and positivity using mantras, prayer, or meditation. Here is a list of a few essential oils I use personally and recommend for smudging: Cedarwood Atlas, Organic Cypress Leaf, Organic Blue Gum Eucalyptus, Wild Blue Mallee Eucalyptus, Wild Eucalyptus Radiata, Organic Frankincense, Wild Juniper Berry, Organic Lemon, Organic Palo Santo, Wild Pinyon Pine, Wild Siberian Fir, Wild White Sage Sweetgrass Hydrosol, Organic Yuzu Try using a combination of these oils in your diffuser. I'm confident that your intuition and your nose will lead you to the right combination for you. Aim for anywhere between 8-10 drops total in your diffuser for essential oil smudging as your goal is to get the oils to saturate the room, much like you would using smoke style smudging. Run your diffuser in 30 minute sessions, taking a break for 1-2 hours in between sessions until the diffuser is empty or until the scent is gone. I included links to the oils below if you'd like to read about them and learn more about their unique properties. I've also included Koru's Organic Sweetgrass Hysdrosol on the list. This is my go to for personal energy clearing in a pinch, on the go protection and clearing when traveling, in between client interactions, and on my pillow at night. In my case today, I incorporated 3 sacred essential oils into my diffuser to clear negative energy from my room, home, and probably most importantly from my energetic field itself. I diffused Organic Juniper Berry, Organic Cypress Leaf, and Organic Lemon. The combination created an uplifting and cleansing aroma, both spiritually as well as mentally. I used 3 drops of each in my diffuser and ran the diffuser for the duration of writing this blog post. Many people can be sensitive to the smoke created from burning plant, herbs, or incense used for sacred smudging, essential oils can be a great alternative. Using essential oils for smudging is sometimes safer too if you live in an apartment, nursing home, or a home with a sensitive smoke detector...trust me...I found this one out the hard way. More than once! Hahaha!! Have a great Monday everyone. Besides being a professional aromatherapist, I have been a licensed massage therapist since 2003. In the field of wellness and healing, there can be a lot of energy exchange happening between therapist and client, intentional or not. I did not become a massage therapist to get into the field of energy work, far from it. But like it or not, it comes with the territory. Many in the healthcare field use terms to describe the imbalanced overwhelm of energy exchange as compassion fatigue, an emotional release, a healing crisis, feeling out of control, and even sometimes just plain confusing. Call it compassion fatigue, call it whatever you want, the truth of the matter is, separating and knowing what is your (pardon my French) shit and what is somebody else's (one more pardon) shit can be hard to do. I can not tell you the number of times I would end a massage session and physically feel pain in my body that was a transference of pain from my client...or even worse...I'd become emotional imbalanced after a session, whether it be anger or intense depression and sadness. This was not my energy yet here it was...IN MY BUBBLE! Yuck. I created Energy Vampire with intention to assist myself in cutting through and clearing energy from my energetic field that was not mine or that no longer served me. (We all have it!) It's great for me as an empath to feel the things I do when I step in to the role of healer as it relates to massage, but "hell to the no" is it - nor will it ever be my job to take that crap home with me. I don't have that right. Sorry ego, not doing it. I too feel that my client is entitled to know that I come into a session with clear energy and not dump my energy onto them! (Don't tell me you don't have a friend or family member like this! You know the type...we’ve all been around those people that just seem to suck the life right out of you.) Energy Vampire can also be used proactively to protect you from being hit with this kind of energy. Here's how I do it - I will apply Energy Vampire to my wrists, take a slow deep breath in and out, and then with my hands physically create a vortex or bubble around my body, roughly 6-12 inches out. Imagine, being at the airport getting "patted down" - yet you're doing it to your own energetic field or aura. This intention, psychologically or energetically, label it how you may, it works. It really does. If you are someone who is an empath and sometimes feels like you are taking on other peoples energy, you work in the health care field specifically, or know somebody who does...especially right now...I think you could benefit from incorporating Energy Vampire into your routine. I hope this gift with purchase makes it more accessible to you for personal use or for you to gift a bottle to someone you know that might benefit. Also, as always, I'm here for questions as it relates to my oils scientifically...or energetically. My oils are intended and capable of working on both. I hand pour all of my oils to order for each person who orders them. This small batch and unique process makes Energy Vampire an even more powerful tool when separation of space is needed between your energetic field and what may seem like sheer craziness around you. They are basically made up of a cotton pad (wick) soaked with essential oil. The pad (wick) is then inserted into the inhaler. A plastic inhaler, much like the Vick’s inhaler, is the most common type of inhaler to make and use. Inhalers can be made for either therapeutic or perfumery purposes. For Respiratory Support - Aromatherapy inhalers are extremely effective in providing support for respiratory issues such as colds, flu, sinus issues, congestion, allergies - to name just a few. Using a personal inhaler for deep lung issues delivers greater efficacy than that of a room diffuser. For Emotional Support - Aromatherapy inhalers are also extremely effective for your emotional state. They can be wonderful and supportive for depression, anxiety, stress, and nervousness. Essential oils work in a number of ways but the quickest way the aroma of an essential oil reaches the body is by inhalation through the nose; smells trigger responses in people through the stimulation of the limbic part of the brain, where moods and emotions are governed. Nasal inhaler instructions : 1. In a glass container, soak absorbent pad in essential oil(s) for at least one minute. The pad should absorb about one milliliter (20 drops) of oil. Avoid touching the soaked wick with your hands as you may have a reaction. 2. Using a tweezers, place the pad inside the inner cylinder and seal with a plug. (Plug needs to be pushed in hard.) 3. Place the large cylinder over small inner cylinder and screw in tightly. Make sure that you cap it when not in use and affix a label with the contents for reference. You are now ready to use your aromatherapy inhaler! Simply uncap the inhaler and take a few quick sniffs (or one deep inhale) of the blend as required. Avoid contact with the skin and mucous membranes. When the scent fades, simply re-moisten the wick with more oil. Ready To Get Started? Uplifting Inhaler Blend

As a Professional Aromatherapist, and a graduate of the American College of Healthcare Sciences, it is important to me to take my education and use it to provide support to others through fact based evidence, not marketing and scare tactics. I have seen and heard a lot of misinformation about essential oils, not just with Covid-19, but for years. Unfortunately, Covid-19 has just been a further catalyst for these scare tactics and misinformation. A lot of companies have made claims to fix, cure, heal, solve, resolve, and fundamentally change the way the human body is actually set up to function! I see this a lot when I hear people tell me that they have been told or read on social media to ingest essential oils. This is generally not a good idea and certainly not a good idea if not being implemented under the direct care and direction of a healthcare provider. Adding an essential oil to your drinking water in particular is a bad and potentially dangerous thing to do. Essential oils are a combination of sometimes upwards of 100 different volatile aromatic compounds and they do not mix with water, at least, not well and not without an emulsifying agent for support. The human body can not absorb or breakdown oils in this manner. Please do not ingest oils. You are likely to do more harm than good. Imagine being in quarantine with your ex boyfriend or girlfriend. You are the essential oil…your ex is the water. Like you and your ex, they just don’t get along well together. I could get into the tedious science of molecular polarity here of why essential oils and water don’t mix, but I’ll save this discussion for another blog post, perhaps one that can lull those of you that struggle with insomnia to sleep. The reasons you and your ex do not mix…well, that is a whole other series of articles beyond my scope of practice…but you get the idea! There seems to be so much going on in the world, right now more than ever, that we can not control and is unknown to us. As a company founded on doing the right thing, we will not sell you nor make claims to have the cure for Covid-19. At the time of writing this blog, there are studies looking into the effect of essential oils on this particular strain of virus SARS-CoV-2 also known as the “noval coronavirus” however no cure through botanical means has been proven. Studies like these in the past have been performed on both SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV and have provided insight, but we are just not there yet scientifically with this particular strain. Often times crisis and fear can bring out the best and unfortunately the worst out of people just the same. That being said, there are a lot of Professional Aromatherapists and companies out there related to and unrelated to healthcare doing the right thing, but you need to know where to look. For us here at Koru, we are driven by fact based evidence, science, clinical trials, proven efficacy, and at our core; intuition. Sometimes even the facts can get blurred and overwhelming so trust your own intuition right now and if a claim or statement being offered sounds too good to be true…it probably is. Slow down, take a breath, and know that there is good in the world and that truth is stronger than fear. Scare tactics do sell products, but not here. Not now. Not ever. So…what can complimentary alternative medicine and essential oils be useful for right now? Evidence suggests that inhalation of oils provide support to the immune system as well as oils that offer support with anxiety and stress are the way to go! So go ahead…diffuse, take a bath, or roll-on Koru’s Wild Lavender, Neroli, Lemon, Clary Sage, Roman Chamomile, and Bergamot to name a few. If you have read or heard about various ways to use essential oils to support yourselves and your family during the Coronavirus Pandemic and are uncertain about the truth behind the words…WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! Please email us at [email protected] with your questions and we would absolutely love to help you break down the information, separating fact from fiction. If not Koru Oils, please be sure that you are working with or getting your information from a reliable source that is fact based and not simply marketing based. How do you know if you are surrounded by one and how can you protect yourself?Halloween might be over, but that doesn’t mean that you are clear of vampires that might be lurking around! An energy vampire that is... We’ve all been around those people that just seem to suck the life right out of you. You might feel anxiety, stress, sudden anger, confusion, threatened, depressed, restlessness, dizzy or spacey, annoyed, weakness, suspicious, bothered, inferior, or simply exhausted and drained of your own energy when dealing with these people. Sometimes it can feel almost toxic to be in the presence of these individuals, especially for highly gifted and sensitive people. You may even feel as though you pick up and begin to take on their energy. It’s like your good mood and clear intention has somehow become negative and just not “you.” You may have a boss, coworker, a friend, or even a family member that fits this description. Yuck. How draining and exhausting this can be. The Alchemist for Koru Oils has struggled for years with trying to create boundaries for herself as a highly sensitive and gifted intuitive. She describes her gifts as both a blessing and a curse. She often references “picking up and taking on everybody else’s crap!” Koru’s proprietary Energy Vampire™️ blend was inspired by and for people like Janna. The goal of this oil is to provide a barrier of protection between you and those toxic energies around you while raising your vibration to facilitate awareness of your own energy. This allows you to more clearly separate what is someone else’s energy from your own. At this point of greater awareness, if you have taken on something that does not belong to you, you can then release their energy back to them and claim back only what is yours. Remember, nobody has a right to be in your energetic field unless you allow them. Protect yourself with Koru’s Energy Vampire™️. Rosemary Essential Oil For Memory.”There’s rosemary, that’s for remembrance.” -William ShakespeareDo you currently struggle with one or all three of these: Put into simple terms, there are really 3 types of remembering, as it pertains to memory: 1. Past Memory - your experiences and what you learned at school. 2. Present Memory - your functioning minute to minute and ability to recall current moment things. 3. Future Memory - basically “remembering to remember!” How can we improve our ability to remember things past, present, and future? One way is through aromatherapy using Rosemary.A compound found in Rosemary called 1,8-cineole may act in the same way as the drugs licensed to treat dementia, causing an increase in a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. These compounds do this by preventing the breakdown of the neurotransmitter by an enzyme, inhalation being one of the best ways of getting drugs into the brain...this is where Aromatherapy comes in! Aromatherapy allows small molecules to pass into the bloodstream and then into the brain without being broken down by the liver, as the case would be in an oral drug or pill. I’ve included in this blog post the link to a wonderful article by Dr. Chris Van Tulleken if you would like to learn more... |
